Waterford Whispers has duped half the internet with this journalist's 'resignation letter'

It’s the most viral image on Imgur today. Not bad, eh?

IF YOU’RE FLICKING through Imgur, you’ll notice that a photo of Kylie Jenner with Waterford Whispers’ signature red logo is the most viral image on the website today.

The image is titled “Best resignation article ever” and refers to a satirical piece published by Waterford Whispers News a few days ago.

The piece is titled “Did Kylie Jenner Get a Boob Job? Why Am I Being Paid To Write About This Shite?” and is framed as a resignation letter by a journalist, weary of writing about the youngest Jenner.

It has a pretty spectacular opening.

F**KING probably yeah, but why the fuck do I have to write 500 words on it and “include 5 pictures from her Instagram or Snapchat”. Yeah, al-f**king-right Siobhan, thanks for the email. This is exactly why I studied journalism, cheers for hiring me. F**king dream job my hole.

In fact, it’s so spectacular that many have confused it for a genuine resignation letter.

Leading viral site The Poke also fell for it and wrote, “The prospect of writing 500 words about Kylie Jenner’s boobs proves too much for one journalist.” (They have since deleted the article.)

The original Waterford Whispers News article has now been shared over 52,000 times and counting.

This is not the first time the site has fooled international media into believing it’s real. A yarn about a North Korean space mission was picked up by many reputable news outlets in 2014.

A year later, they successfully duped a magazine in Uganda into believing that the journalist John Waters was relocating there, as well as a magazine in Germany into republishing a story about a stampede in Lidl.

Well played, everyone.
